Job Title:  General Manager, Insurance Corporation of Afghanistan

Purpose of the post:

The General Manager will report to the CEO and will be responsible for implementing the Strategic Plan of ICA in the most cost effective, profitable and time efficient manner.

Key responsibilities of the post:

Strategic:

• With the Board and its Advisors develop and implement the strategic plan.
• In conjunction with the Development Director create, implement and monitor a marketing plan.
• Develop working relationships with Government and other Public and Trade bodies.
• Cultivate a Corporate culture that reflects the objectives and tenets of the company.
• Ensure that the assets and liabilities of the company are properly protected.
• Ensure compliance with all legal and audit requirements.
• Discuss with the Board and its Advisors any issues that may have a material effect on the company.
• Produce a formal written report for the Board every month.

Day to day management of the company – Ensure:

• Establish processes for work flow of the business to international insurance company standards.
• Establish necessary authority and controls in the day to day operations of the business.
• Implement the processes.
• Hire and train the mid level managers necessary to operate the business on a day to day basis.
• Develop the organization chart for current, mid and long term prospects of the company.
• The senior managers work effectively as team for the benefit of the company and report progress on a regular basis.
• The efficient and disciplined running of the office in conjunction with the Office Manager.
• With the IT Manager ensure that the IT systems are robust and that the support to the business fulfils expectations and delivers value both internally and to the client.
• The insurance accounting systems match international standards.
• Timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts.
• Effective cost controls.
• Motivation, training and mentoring of staff.
• Technical competence in dealing with clients and the international insurance market.

Ideal candidates will possess:

The successful candidate will be a Graduate with experience in this field but this does not exclude those who can demonstrate successful and significant work related experience.

Knowledge and Experience

• At least five years in a similar role, preferably in international markets.
• Sound understanding of the financial implications of managing an insurance company.
• A good knowledge of the operational and technical aspects of a multi line insurance company.
• Knowledge of human resource management and supervision.
